In the present study, two bioactive materials (chitin and FCSs) were extracted from crab shells waste after fermentation using six Bacillus strains. High deproteinization rates were achieved by all the strains tested when cultivated in medium supplemented or not with glucose. Furthermore, glucose supplementation was found to improve demineralization rates. The extracted chitins were characterized by spectroscopic method using FTIR. The FTIR spectra of the prepared chitins after fermentation showed the characteristics bands of α-chitin.
