Good morning, Gary!
I wanted to follow up with you and everyone there. I will find the parts and get them all ordered. So far, I’ve found the brake parts and ordered them last night, and will look for the carburetors. Do I need both complete carbs, or just rebuild kits for them? I also have a switch for the steering column controls, which should be arriving any day. I want to return the steering column switches to their original functions (turn signals, headlights, etc.), and rewire the horn so that it works properly. At some point in the past, it was turned into a button on the steering wheel, which has never worked well or properly.
That’s good news about the compression, and I agree that for now, I’d rather not strip the top of the engine, but live with the noise for a while longer. When/if we were to do that, I suspect we would find other problems that may also need to be addressed. I hope to get there, but want to work on the immediate problems first. I am hoping to eventually restore the car, but it needs to be in phases, since we also need to use it to get around Bangkok.
However, with all of this going on, I also wanted to let you all know that after next week, I will be out of town for a couple weeks. I am pretty sure I will have the switch for the steering column controls and will be able to get that to you before I depart, but I suspect that the rest of the parts will take longer to arrive. As a result, I wanted to ask if it is ok to leave my Rover at your shop, or you need me to make alternate arrangements. Please let me know how you would prefer to handle this.
