Mesosciophilidae was first described by Rohdendorf in 1946 as a subfamily, Mesosciophilinae, within the family Allactoneuridae (Rohdendorf, 1946). Later, this family Allactoneuridae was renamed Fungivoritidae (Rohdendorf, 1964). Kovalev (1985) re-described Mesosciophilinae and elevated it to Mesosciophilidae. Blagoderov (1993) reported a genus with three species and for the first time described body structures as family diagnosis with a complete specimen.
