3.4. TEM observation of zirconium deuterides
Fig. 10 shows TEM images of samples deuterated at 1 atm and
3 atm. It can be seen from Fig. 10(a) and (b) that d-ZrD1.66 phase and
a-Zr phase are both observed. The orientation relationship between
the a-Zr phase and the d-ZrD1.66 phase is (0001)a//(001)d and [21
1
0]a//[001]d. In Fig. 10(c) only the ε-ZrD1.8 phase is observed. It has
acicular morphology with different orientations. These differently
oriented ε-ZrD1.8 phases collide and form a heavy mass-thickness
contrast at the grain interface, (Fig. 10(d)), implyingthere exists a
strong stress concentration.
