4. Discussion
The advantage of dietary mineral supplementation was demonstrated by higher yield,
better fish growth and more efficient feed utilization. Supplementation of macro-minerals
had a significant effect as compared to supplementation of micro-minerals. Require-
ments for micro-minerals are in trace amounts and it appears that in a semi-intensive
system, natural food and pond water may supply adequate amounts of these minerals for
normal growth. This is further evidenced by the lack of any mineral deficiency signs in
any of the treatments.
