Specifically, while colonization by the British and subsequent independence saw the changing tides for Myanmar, English and other minority languages following decisions made by the then ruling powers, it is difficult to predict what the future will hold for the pattern of language education that we observe in Myanmar today. Nonetheless, it is clear that, with the world becoming increasingly borderless, developments outside Myanmar will have an influence on developments in the country. To put things figuratively, as a sailor sets the course and trims the sails according to weather conditions, Myanmar has to find her bearing in the face of this changing tide.
