D. spinosa adults measure up to at least 0.99 mm but the largest of the species found in the sediment from this unit were only around 0.5 mm (De Deckker, 1981). Also, bore-hole predation marks were found on Reticypris sp. carapaces (Fig. 5k) which were not observed
in any other unit. In addition, charophyte oogonia are present in Unit 1a (Fig. 1), but skeletal fish remains were not preserved well enough to enable identification.
