Tourism plays a vital role in the Hong Kong economy. In 2000, the industry generated about $62 billion of revenue,
accounting for over 5% of the GDP. Over 11.3 million visitors came to Hong Kong in 1999, among them about 30%
were business travellers. Hong Kong holds the title as the most popular single city destination in Asia. Also, the tourism
industry has employed directly and indirectly around 10% of our work force. Given its significance, there is a need to
examine what can be done to further enhance and develop tourism from a land use planning perspective
