Administering the Assessment
The evaluation instrument is designed to perform assessment from a positive point of view. Completion of this instrument should result in a list of skills that the person can perform independently. Administration involves an interview with a person, called the respondent, who is intimately knowledgeable regarding the individual being evaluated. The person obtaining the information is called the examiner. Preferably, the respondent should be a parent or primary caregiver. In some cases the individual being assessed could serve as the respondent if he or she is capable. The environment where the assessment is conducted should be as free from distractions as possible. At the beginning, the examiner should explain to the respondent that the instrument does not generate an IQ, or any similar result, but rather indicates a person's ability to perform certain functional activities from daily life. Prior to the respondent giving information about an individual, the examiner should explain the definitions of the terms Independent and Not Applicable, which arc levels of performance of the items on the assessment. These terms should be explained as follows:
