This country will be a long time changing because the Thais themselvesdon`t seemed bothered, apathy is a good description. l have spent almost 3 months here and the thing that annoys me the most is the traffic, Cars and motorbkes think they can do what they like --- they do not want to slow down even on zebra crossings and many is the time l have put my hand up and said STOP !! they then slow down, motorcycles sometimes ride on pavements, it is total chaos here, pedestrians are not regarded very highly and pedal cyclists are detested, it seems the only thing that counts here is the car and motorcycle, king of the road !
lt is laughable that in some places there are cycle lanes, even the presiden l read said he hoped to make Bangkok a cycling city, but the cycle lanes are always used by motorcyclist, in the main, or, blocked by cars or other vehicles, l am sure if the WILL is really there then the president can make this happen, if he can`t then who can !!!
l think the Thais should demonstrate more about ALL these problems, and to be perfectly honest l don`t understand their mentality of just leaving things as they are, and with 3 deaths EVERY DAY in Bangkok, usually pedestrians and motorcyclists, something URGENTLY needs to be done.
