The structure, systems, and landscape of Natural Fusion are
the culmination of a two-year volunteer enterprise between
students, industry mentors, and faculty advisors. For the
Natural Fusion enterprise, the core concept of a holistic
integration of elements, relative to PV integration or any
other system design, relied on the process of integrative
design. In the case of the systems for the 2009 Penn State
Solar Decathlon home, the necessary considerations were
constrained by properties of thermal performance
(generative and insulative), geometry, time (load matching),
optics, mechanics, electricity, and aesthetic and economic
attributes.
