• Physical activity is one of the established disease management strategies for adults with
DM2(1,5,14)
–The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends at least 150 minutes per
week of moderate intensity aerobic exercise such as walking or jogging to reduce
cardiovascular risk factors and improve glycemic control(2,5)
–Unless contraindicated, persons with DM2 are encouraged to engage in resistance
training (e.g., weight lifting or circuit training) 3 times a week, which has been shown
to improve glycemic control and overall health(2,5)
–In addition, all individuals, including those with DM2, should limit their sedentary
time, including by breaking up extended periods spent sitting(2)
