This research is to study and develop the drive system of a patient food trolley of Maharaj Nakhon si Thammarat hospital, help the workers less tired especially when carry the patient food trolley on the slope plane to second floor. The patient food trolley use for this research is 46 trays loaded ,the loaded weight combine with the trolley weight is about 220 Kg. After studied the operation of the trolley and received the information needs from the workers, the drive system of the patient food trolley was designed with a 1 HP DC motor as a prime mover and two 12 volt 18 amp hour batteries, in series connection, as a power sources. The power transmission from the motor to the wheels use the transmission chain, select the number 420 chain, and use sprockets to reduce speed of the trolley for the speed not exceed 1.2 meters per second. Controller of the drive system use a motor controller circuit which can vary the speed of the motor. It can rotate the throttle to control the speed of the trolley in the range of 0 - 1.2 meters per second including forward or backward. The results of the research can achieve the objectives. The drive system with electric motor works perfectly. The patient food trolley equipped with electric motor drive system then being introduced into routine use in the hospital.
