Another way to encourage employees to contribute to the organization is to generate a meaningful work that fosters employee development and health. Organizational psychologists have long seen the potential for work to satisfy belongingness, esteem, and self-actualization needs, as well as designing jobs that offer the opportunity to use diverse skills, and provide meaning and autonomy to employees. Designing jobs to be meaningful and developmental increases job satisfaction for the employee, which in turn has positive effects on organizational outcomes, such as increased productivity and decreased turnover.
