high lignocellulose contents. They can be used up to
the 5- 10% level (Devendra, 198 1) and serve as
roughage which prevents intestinal disorders (Jansen
and vanden Burg, 1991). These feedstuffs cost next
to nothing to obtain at the rural levels and as such
could be easily harnessed if and when their nutritional
