The purpose of this study was to identify predictors of parents’ perceptions and concerns
about child weight in a cohort of 4–6 year-old children who participated in an eating
behavior study that occurred across 5 study visits. Predictors tested were related to three
categories: parental characteristics, child body composition, and child eating/activity
behaviors. The best models for both included variables from all three of these categories,
indicating that parental perceptions and concerns about child weight are complex and multi-
