Laboratory infection experiments and the effect of
water temperature on post-infection disease onset
(experiment 1)
The experimental pearl oysters were individuals free
of red adductor disease that had been fertilized six
months earlier, and raised from seed oysters produced in
February 1997. At the time of the infection experiment
they had a shell height of 44.7±4.1 mm and a gross wet
weight of 9.9±2.6 g. There were 480 individuals in all.
