Motor is the motor that
utilizes the reluctance torque originated in magnetic
saliency between stator and rotor. SR motor has neither
coil nor permanent magnet on the rotor, thus it has simple
structure, highly reliable at severe conditions, low-cost on
manufacturing, and also can be expected for high efficiency.
In addition, SR motor has high torque density because the
motor can increase its torque even though stator poles are
magnetically saturated. These advantages are suitable for an
application of SR motors to Electric Vehicles (EVs). So we
have also developed proto-type EVs which used SR motors
shown in Fig. 1
