Animals of groups II, III, IV, V, VI and VII were administered with paracetamol (150 mg/kg orally after 18 h starvation) as single dose to induce hepatotoxicity, Group II served as paracetamol control. One hour after the paracetamol treatment, Group III served as positive control and received silymarin (75 mg/kg body weight) orally, Group IV and Group V were orally administered with APE 100 and 200 mg/kg and group VI and VII with SCE 100 and 200 mg/kg, respectively. Paracetamol was made into a suspension in 0.1% carboxy methyl cellulose. The plant extracts and silymarin were dissolved in sterile distilled water for oral administration to animals.
