Lumbar puncture was performed in 241 (74%)
patients. Elevated CSF proteins (>0.55 g/l) were
detected in 88% of examined patients, while >4
lymphocytes per microliter were detected in 65
(25%) of patients, >10 in 20 (6%), and above 50 in
2 (0.8%). Electrophysiology was performed in 262
(80%) patients. Predominant demyelination was found
in 209 (64%), predominant axonal lesion in 53 (16%),
pure motor neuropathy in 58 (18%), pure sensory in 9
(3%), and sensory-motor in 185 (57%).
Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg)was given in 174
(53%) patients, therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) in
73 (22%), and both therapies in 10 (3%) (TPE always
preceded IVIg). Corticosteroids were used in 72 (22%)
subjects, in most of them in doses
