3.1. Parameters for adaptive segmentation algorithm
The number of iterations for morphological filtering of spots in
binary image is the key working parameter for segmentation
of infestation sites in X-ray images of fruits. This parameter
is not universal for different kinds of fruits nor is it universal
for fruits with different extents of infestation. The number
of iteration is basically affected by the size and shape of the
infestation sites. Therefore, adjustment of this parameter for
different conditions of quarantine inspection is usually necessary.
Once the parameter is determined for a specific scanning
operation such as a particular kind of fruit, the parameter is
saved in the record file for later retrieval and parameter setting
when the same kind of fruit is scanned afterward.
