1760 Robert Kay patented the Drop box Loom, England allowing the speedier insertion of several coloured wefts in pre-determined order. (See Fig. 1.3[b].)
1764 James Hargreaves of England was granted a patent for the first spinning machine, the spinning jenny, named after his wife, an expert hand-spinner. The spinning jenny was based upon the charka. (See Fig 1.4)
