Conclusions
Synchrotron in situ powder XRD measurements have been
conducted at the Australian Synchrotron. It was confirmed that
XRD peaks clearly indicate Mg, Mg

Ni, MgH

phases.
It was found that the hydrogen release temperature largely de-
pends on the atmosphere. The most favourable conditions for
quick release were dehydriding under an Ar rich atmosphere,
while testing in air resulted in a significantly increased dehydrid-
ing temperature. These results have practical implications and
should be considered when comparing results of research in the
hydrogen storage capacity and release kinetics of Mg-based
