Valuation and decision-making
Including deconomics in the name of the field
implies that values must be a core issue. As Gowdy
and Erickson (in press) write: Value is the essence of
economics. The history of economic thought is largely
one of competing concepts of value. In particular,
valuation became an important topic for the socioeconomists
who were attracted to ecological economics.
Others also dealt with valuation, including the
researchers related to the ecosystem programme
outlined above, and I will return to the different
approaches after a brief presentation of the socioeconomic
work (this presentation is also included to
provide a background for a comparison with the basic
thought patterns of the resilience approach).
