Melting after a record winter snowfall triggered widespread flooding in southern Manitoba, Minnesota and North Dakota. More than 7,000 military personnel helped evacuate 25,450 people in Canada. The flooding of the Red River and some of its tributaries in April and May damaged an estimated 1,000 homes.
