To compensate for the despoliation of their lands, the deposited Rakais were often given positions in the central government, an enviable position as it enabled an ambitious Rakai either to gain a stronger advantage and higher position
by becoming closer to the King, or, through opportunistic political alliance, to benefit from any coup d'etat.
