A PM program for the monitors should follow the manufacture’s suggestions.
Specialized test equipment may be required, to perform the recommended tests of proper
operation of the monitors. Monitors may have special connectors or cables that are proprietary
to the manufacturer. The sole-source nature of these accessories usually renders
them more expensive than those that can be obtained from second sources. This sort of
information should be considered at the time of equipment evaluation and purchase as it
can have a sizeable effect on the cost of operation (see Chapter 33 and Figure 93-2, showing
bedside monitors on a radiant warmer on which a neonate is lying).
