Parasocial interaction (PSI) is defined as a quasi relationship developed by media users with persona on mass media programs. BODYLOVE is a radio soap opera designed to promote healthier lifestyles in an entertaining manner. It is based on entertainmenteducation (E-E) strategies. E-E programs often use social learning theory, portraying positive, negative, and transitional characters. Social cognitive theory (SCT) posits that these characters provide the audience members with learning experiences. BODYLOVE’s characters depict their courses o f actions, their outcomes, struggles, and successes. The
program focuses on prevention o f diabetes, and other cardiovascular disease and is tailored for African Americans who are subject to racial health disparities in Alabama.
