Reduced forage production during the short-daylength period of the year has also been reported in low-latitude areas. In Puerto Rico, Ramos-Santana and Rodriguez-Arroyo (1991) reported 22% lower winter-season yield of guineagrass cultivars when compared to production during long days. However, it was not determined whether the loss of production was a result of altered plant growth due to the short-daylengths, or a response to other environmental characteristics such as low temperature or water deficits.
