The ORC system operation is not only simple, but
also almost identical to that of the SRCs. It can be
explained briefly as below:-
- An external fluid (from which heat is to be
recovered) provides heat either directly to the
organic (working) fluid of the ORC system or to a
thermal oil (that in turn heats the organic fluid) in
the preheater and the evaporator.
-The hot organic fluid then expands in the turbine
converting the heat energy into mechanical energy.
The generator in turn converts the mechanical
energy into electrical energy.
- The hot organic vapour is then cooled in a heat
exchanger by water (mostly) and then condensed.
The water here gets heated in the process and can
be used for various purposes as mentioned above
to increase the overall system efficiency.
- The cool organic fluid is pumped back into the
regenerator to close the cycle.
