Even when the bacterium was cultured, it was considered to be a contaminant, especially if isolated following percutaneous punctures or biopsies [6,12]. However, a positive culture for P. acnes cannot be dismissed as a contaminant without considering the clinical circumstances. Thus, although P. acnes originates from the normal flora, it can act as a primary pathogen [6,9,13].
