1. One morning Boo looked out of the kitchen window.
2. Sitting on a branch was a bird of many colors.
3. Boo said to his mother “That is a beautiful bird.”
4. “What kind of bird is it?”
5. Sue said “I do not know.”
6. “I have never seen that kind of bird.”
7. Boo said “I want to go to look at it.”
8. Jah said “I want to go too.”
9. Boo and Jah went outside.
10. Boo said to Jah “Be quiet.”
11. “I do not want the bird to fly away.”
12. They walked near the tree.
13. The bird did not fly away.
14. Then the children heard “Good morning.”
15. They looked around but did not see anyone.
16. Then they heard again “Good morning.”
17. Boo said “Good morning.”
18. He asked “Where are you?”
19. They heard “I am in the tree.”
20. “I am sitting on a branch.”
21. They looked up and saw the bird.
22. Boo said “Birds cannot talk.”
23. The bird said “I can talk.”
24. “I am a parrot.”
25. “My name is Noodle.”
26. “My mother taught me how to talk.”
27. “I can speak Thai and English.”
28. The children saw the bird talking.
29. Boo said “The bird is really speaking.”
30. Boo asked “Where did you come from?”
31. Noodle answered “I flew here from far away.”
32. “My family lives in the mountains.”
33. “Yesterday there was a big wind.”
34. “I was flying high in the sky.”
35. “The wind blew and blew.”
36. “It blew me down the mountain.”
37. “I did not know what to do.”
38. “I flew and flew all day and all night.”
39. “This morning I arrived at this tree.”
40. “I am very tired and very hungry.”
41. Boo said “I can get you something to eat.”

53. “The bird told me her name is Noodle.”
54. “… and she likes to eat noodles.”
55. Sue said “Birds cannot talk.”
56. Boo said “This bird can talk.”
57. “She is a parrot.”
58. “Her mother taught her to talk.”
59. “She can speak Thai and English.”
60. Sue said “I do not believe you.”
61. “…but I will cook some noodles.”
62. “…and we will see if the bird eats noodles.”
63. Sue cooked some noodles on the stove.
64. She put the noodles on a dish.
65. Sue and the children went outside.
66. Noodle was now sitting on the ground.
67. Noodle saw the dish of noodles and said “Thank you.”
68. Sue smiled and said “This bird can talk.”
69. “It is a smart bird.”
70. “I believe you now.”
71. Noodle ate all of the noodles.
72. Jah brought some water in a bowl.
73. Noodle drank the water too.
74. Then Noodle said “I have to go to sleep now.”
75. “I flew all day and all night.”
76. “I am very tired.”
77. Noodle flew to a branch in the tree.
78. Noodle said “I will sleep on this branch.”
79. Then Noodle went to sleep.
80. The children went inside.
81. Boo said “I want to call Champ.”
82. “I want to tell him about Noodle.”
83. Boo called Champ on the telephone.
84. Jane answered the telephone.
85. Boo asked “Can I talk with Champ?”
86. Jane answered “He is not here now.”
87. “The children went into the city with Chaiyo.”
88. “They will return at about 4:00.”
89. Boo said “I want Champ to come to my house.”
90. “He and Risa can see Noodle.”
91. “Noodle is a parrot.”
92. “Noodle can speak Thai and English.”
93. Jane said “I do not believe you.”
94. “…but we will come to see the bird this afternoon.”
95. That afternoon Chaiyo and his family arrived at Boo’s house.
96. Champ asked Boo “Where is the bird?”
97. “You told my mother that the bird can talk.”
98. “I have never heard a bird talk.”
99. They all went outside.
100. Noodle was sleeping on the tree branch.
101. Noodle woke up.
102. Noodle said “That was a nice nap.”
103. “I feel better now.”
104. Jane said “I believe you now.”
105. “This bird can talk.”
106. “It is a smart bird.”
107. Sue brought a bowl of noodles from the house.
108. She gave the bowl to Boo.
109. Noodle flew down from the tree.
110. Noodle sat on Boo’s shoulder and ate some noodles.
111. Noodle said “Noodles are the best food.”
112. “My mother gets noodles from the market.”
113. Lee said “Birds do not have money.”
114. “How do birds buy noodles at the market?”
115. Noodle answered “My mother does not buy the noodles.”
116. “She takes the noodles when the salesman is not looking.”
117. “Then she flies to our tree.”
118. “…and we all eat the noodles.”
119. “Some days she cannot get noodles.”
120. “Then we eat corn or rice or fruit.”
121. Boo said “You are a smart bird.”
122. Noodle said “Yes. I am smart.”
123. “But I miss my mother too.”
124. “I will have to fly back to the mountain.”
