When Ateles marginatus is excluded altogether from the alignment,
the same topology of species-level relationships within the
genus Ateles is reconstructed in both our maximum likelihood
and Bayesian analysis: paniscus is inferred to be the first species
to diverge from the spider monkey common ancestor, followed by
a split between a clade of hybridus belzebuth chamek)
and a clade of fusciceps geoffroyi (Fig. 3E and F). This is the
same typology reconstructed in our initial Bayesian analysis
among the non-marginatus spider monkeys (Fig. 3B)
