The organizational framework of the literature review is starting with
conceptualization of healthy aging with respect to the definition of health and concepts
of healthy aging. Theoretical background of the study including Berkman’s theory of
social integration linking to health, the concept of social support, and the theoretical
model of successful aging are addressed.
Multidimensional components of healthy aging model in this present study
covering physical functioning, cognitive functioning, active engagement with life, and
positive spirituality/religiosity are identified. Factors associated with healthy aging with
respect to socio-demographic factors and psychosocial factors such as social networks,
social support, sense of well-being and health promotion behavior are explored. Then,
conceptual framework and hypotheses of this study are proposed. Lastly, gaps of
knowledge and study contributions are addressed.
