Repent in prison, Saiful tells Anwar

PETALING JAYA: Saiful Bukhari Azlan, Anwar Ibrahim's former aide, has told his former boss to make full use of his time in prison to reflect on his life and repent.
Wishing Anwar well, Saiful hoped the former opposition leader was healthy and in peace.
"God will forgive those who have repented. He was my former employer, so I pray the best for him," said Saiful in a statement on Wednesday.
Saiful said he had been observing all the campaigns and movements in favour of Anwar in the last year but had refrained from commenting on it.
"I had withdrawn the defamation suit and a charge that would have cost Anwar 50 million ringgit (US$11.98 million) solely based on humanity.
"Because for me it was enough that my complaints were taken to the Federal court and Anwar was charged. I just wanted to close the chapter and move on with my life," he said.
Saiful said of late he had noticed that many people were spinning information and making it seem like his allegations were fake and politically motivated.
"These lies were not only spread to Malaysians but the whole world. It’s shameful that many big international powers have fallen for these lies and willingly donated millions to fund his freedom campaigns," he added.
He then called for those involved to stop spreading malicious lies.
"Since 1998 to date, enough already, if you are not afraid of people or laws, at least fear God," he said.
Saiful stressed that those who have been fighting for Anwar from the perspective of human rights failed to look at his point of view.
"What about me? The victim of the situation, am I not a human being? Is it right for me to be denied my rights by human rights commissions and organisations?
"Clearly this only means that people would only stand up for those who would benefit them. They would defend a person who has the money, power and influence and not a small fry like myself," said Saiful.
Anwar was sentenced to five years’ jail for sodomising his former aide at the Desa Damansara condominium in Bukit Damansara on June 26, 2008.
