Wind energy can be connected to the grid at the initial transmission stage (at the same stage as fossil-fuel generation, for example), at regional substations, or even ‘‘behind-the-meter’’ for small-scale applications. For that reason it is interesting to explore whether or not markets that have deregulate electricity witnessed a greater surge in wind production, and hence received a greater share of the federal tax credit, than regulated markets.
