Avoid overloading outlets. Keep safety covers on all unused outlets accessible to children.
Make sure cords are not frayed or cracked. Place them out of traffic areas, and out of the reach of children and pets.
Check for loose-fitting plugs. Plugs should fit securely, but should not be forced into an outlet.
Never use an extension cord with more than one appliance – and make sure the cord is rated for at least the number of watts needed by the item plugged into it.
If an appliance repeatedly blows a fuse or trips a circuit breaker, unplug it and repair or replace it.
Check the wattage of all light bulbs to make sure they are not too high for the fixture. Never leave lamp sockets empty.
Place space heaters at least three feet away from flammable materials, and away from areas where they can be knocked over
