The new DC170 Supreme is a high-end drill for steel and cast iron workpieces that breaks away from the previously familiar design features. Due to its functional innovative features and revolutionary appearance, it has also been called the "Ikon of Drilling".
The most prominent new feature for this drill are the radial lands which encircle the copper-coloured, coated head of the drill. These provide the tool with continuous guidance, which is why vibration is reduced to a minimum. Operational smoothness is as a consequence, extraordinary, and as a result, the tool remains exactly on the right track. These characteristic lands are separated by grooves which guide the coolant emerging at the tip around the drill. The circulating coolant (CL), emulsion or cutting oil, also limits not only the temperature but also prevents the risk of chip jamming. Furthermore, this unique design means that a greater solid carbide mass confronts the cutting forces than is the case with traditional drills. This makes the DC170 Supreme tougher, which is particularly beneficial when drilling inclined hole exits or cross holes, because mechanical loads rise very quickly at this point. All these new and innovative features ensure excellent process reliability and extremely long tool life – even with the highest of cutting data.
In addition to the previously available drill lengths of 16xD and 20xD, now there are the shorter dimensions of 3xD, 5xD, 8xD and 12xD. Custom-made versions can also be supplied via the Walter Xpress Service for rapidly available special tools. Special features are a full range of intermediate diameters and lengths, or even shank configurations. In addition, even stepped tools are available with DC170 Supreme technology.
