v/ ( visual ) essay is a study of type and image, broadly applying semiotic ideas to capture moments/ideas through visual experience.
v/ essay explores the idea of visual experience through short narratives, following a nameless character as he passively observes his life moving in no particular direction due to the circumstances of his existence.
over the past year i have become interested in the idea of using visual experience as a way to simplify issues that i wanted to explore. these “visual experiences” have recently taken the form of short books. until now, i had only been producing one or two copies of each study, distributing the copies between peers and teachers, limiting the chance of actually observing the publication outside of an academic environment. while mass production has always been a goal, which would open up the possibility of working with distributors. this never seemed possible due to the fact that most of the books that i was making were created by hand, requiring lots of time, care, re-printing, etc…
