You have just been employed as a junior consultant in McTavish Consulting, a large well-known world-wide consulting firm specializing in I.T. Your first job is to be a member in an IT Project team to assist a company called Perth Port Authority (PPA). See attached case study for details about the current operations and problem area. As you are a newly engaged junior consultant, McTavish allocates you a mentor within the organization. The role of the mentor is to help you through the early stages of becoming familiar with your job and the professional expectations that McTavish places upon you. Perth Port Authority (PPA) is a new port authority recently built on the Esplanade on the Swan River, Western Australia. It provides basic services such cranage, moorage and movement from one berth to another for small ships who want a more direct access to companies in Perth. The company already has an old computerised database system in operation which attempts to maintain portbills and invoice for services rendered. The main personnel involved in this system are three port billing clerks who maintain the portbill detail, the portbilling manager who controls the port billing and the invoice clerk who is responsible for preparing invoices.
