Gash 1994). Prior studies have illustrated that ESM-enabled
ENoP effectively bridge the gap between knowledge demand
and supply across organizational and geographic boundaries
(Kankanhalli et al. 2005; O’Dell and Hubert 2011). However,
ESM-enabled ENoP not only reflect but also change the
underlying human interaction in a social system. This phenomenon
requires a fundamental assessment of the assumptions
about how communication and collaboration within an
ENoP take place when designing ESM. While the primary
goal might be to facilitate knowledge exchange from a functional
point of view (Goldkuhl 2006), the ESM-based
communication discourses embrace new forms of individual
representations and identity creation in the virtual space
