Experimental studies carried out in a small-scale RFB
combustor demonstrated that the novel RFB technology is
well suited to the incineration of sludge waste since heat
removal problems from the bed can be avoided. The sludge
throughput for the RFB incinerator was signi cantly higher
than the conventional uidized bed incinerator. Results
from this study show that the bed hydrodynamics are critical
for the sludge incineration process in the RFB. The design
of the distributor plate had a strong effect on the quality of
bed mixing and hence on the sludge incineration process.
