Transcriptomics - the systematic
identification
of all the RNA
transcripts
in a organism/tissue at any
given moment,
including mRNAs and
regulatory RNAs. It gives a “snapshot”
view of the RNA present at the
moment of extraction i.e. events that
are occurring on the transcriptional
level. Basic methodology: as in Fig
opposite: i.e. differentially labelled test
RNA (more usually
cDNA) are hybridized to a DNA chip. Lazer scanning and imaging is used to
determine which genes are differentially expressed. Usually used to identify
differentially transcribed genes - thus regulation on the transcriptional level.
