chillies came from the americas where people started eating them as fat as 9,000 years ago. it was only about 500 years ago that people from Spain and Portugal took them to their own and other parts of the world.for a long time people have tried to find out what makes chillies taste so hot now they know they know what makes our mouths and tongues burn when we taste chillies they have discovered something in the chilli that makes people think they are eating something hot burning although people like the hot, burning sensation animals do not! that's why animals will never eat chillies when they are out looking for food. since animals do not eat chillies, some farmers are now using them to control the small animals which eat the food stored on their farms. in Africa, there are farmers who use chillies to keep elephants away from their farms
but birds are different they are not affected by the taste of chillies when they eat the chilli fruit they also eat the seeds these seeds are dropped far away from the place where the birds ate the fruit so new chilli plant grow far away from the parent plants this helps keep the chilli plant alive and growing
