WEDDING PREPARATIONS
A COMPLEETE MAKE-OVER
Preparations for the bride on the day of the wedding itself must start many hours in advance of the actual ceremony. You can imagine, however, that the last thing anybody wants is somebody in the house with a camera and lights getting in the way when there is so much to do – and when nerves are perhaps getting a little frayed. You, therefore, need to explain to clients that, in the long term, they will probably be happier with their wedding portfolio if they have a record of at least some of those manic, behind-the-scenes preparations.
If it is a sunny day the house you are photographing in is bright with lots of windows, you may be tempted to rely on natural light. Often, this is a mistake. Window light is almost always too contrasty for the type of detailed shots required, and if your subject happens to be shown against a window then the camera’s light meter will almost certainly set an exposure that renders the subject as a silhouette. It is a better idea to rely instead on flash for the main illumination and use any available daylight as fill-in light.
