3.2. Chemical analysis
Results of chemical analyses for the various organic
materials examined are presented in Table 2. Cellulose,
hemicellulose, lignin and ash contents for orange peels were
close to those reported by Aravantinos-Zafiris et al. (1994).
Lemon peels had somewhat lower cellulose and hemicellulose
content, but had lower lignin content as well. The cellulose
content of freshwater algal biomass was about half
that of citrus peels and 1% higher than the cellulose content
of seawater algal biomass reported by Nicolucci et al.
(1994). However, the hemicellulose content of algal bio-
