Taking heed of this royal advice, the Koh Samui District Office and Koh Samui Municipality are leading efforts to clean up the tropical island paradise as a birthday gift to His Majesty the King on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty’s 80th birthday on 5 December 2007.
This initiative is being promoted under the ‘Keep Samui Clean Days’ campaign theme and also marks the start of Samui’s peak travel season. It also reflects efforts to keep the island resort, billed as ‘the Emerald of the Gulf of Thailand’, clean and pristine.
The Koh Samui District Office and Koh Samui Municipality is involving local members of the community and will be working hand-in-hand with other state agencies and private sector organizations.
Koh Samui authorities have pledged to make the ‘Keep Samui Clean’ theme a permanent element of the island’s development and management policy with efforts maintained beyond the official launch of the campaign during 1-8 December 2007.
