By integration is meant the degree to which the HRM issues are considered as part of the formulation of business strategies (see for example, Schreyogg 1987; Butler 1988; Wohlegemuth 1988; Guest 1989a; Brewster and Holt Larsen 1992). There is, in research as well as in the business community, an increasing awareness of the relationship between business strategy and HRM (Storey 1989; Freedman 1991).
