Herbal teas or tisanes have gained popularity all over
the world due to their antioxidant activity and fragrance, which
are thought to exert a calming effect on the mind.1 The intake of
herbal teas for the cure or prevention of diseases, to promote good
health or merely to quench thirst is a traditional and daily practice
in many communities. Most Malaysians are habitual consumers of
herbal tea and believe that herbal teas are safe to consume, assist
in promoting good health, boost energy levels, prevent diseases
and have cosmetic properties.2 Herbal teas can be easily prepared
from any part of a plant, including the roots, flowers, seeds, berries
and bark. The preparation of a herbal infusion, which may consist
exclusively of one or more herbs, is simple and can be performed
by means of decoction, infusion or maceration.3
