Figure 2. Public hearing for the stakeholders in the settings
After the public hearing, the stakeholders in some units were very enthusiastic to strictly follow the new EBP. The practices of HCWs for CAUTI prevention were changed according to the new EBP such as perineal care every time before urinary insertion, and if the urinary tube conjunction disconnect, retain a new urinary catheter. According to the physician’s suggestions from a situational analysis, HCWs in this ward agreed to put a label on the urine bag and strictly secure the urinary tube. In addition, they used normal soap for perineal care instead of antiseptic solution.
2. The researcher and the core working group summarized the tentative
components of the developed model to the stakeholders. Meanwhile, the infection control ward nurses (ICWNs) conducted CAUTI surveillance.
3. To develop the components of model for prevention of CAUTI, the
researcher and the core working group had several group meetings both formal and informal to get their comments and suggestions. The process of developing each component of the model can be described as follows:
3.1 The Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs for CAUTI prevention)
The researcher worked with the core working group to develop the CPGs for CAUTI prevention. These CPGs consisted of two parts including EBP for CAUTI prevention and the practice guidelines for caring for urinary catheterized patients. The CPGs for CAUTI prevention were developed based on the selected EBP (CDC, 2009) from the stakeholders in the study setting. The researcher translated the content of the EBP guideline into Thai with the assistance of the core working group and back translated by one expert in this field. The final draft of these CPGs was approved by all members of the core working group including nurse supervisor in medical services. The final draft of the CPGs was revised according the suggestions of three experts from the Faculty of Nursing, Chiang Mai University.
3.2 Materials for education training session. The materials for training
session consisted of a teaching plan and PowerPoint presentations, and knowledge questionnaires on CAUTI prevention. The process for developing each material is described as follows:
